Hi.  This week we have been focussing on getting to know each other and working out the best way to enter and leave the classroom as an individual.  Often our students are excited to leave to come to a group or a 1:1 session or they are excited to get back and share what they have learned.

We know however, that entering or leaving loudly or making a fuss can distract other students or even draw undue attention.  We have been brainstorming and roleplaying what would be a good choice and what would be a poor choice.  We have been doing this with the help of Casey and his friends on the ‘Model Me ids’ DVD.  See below for a sample scene from the DVD.

We have been learning about transitions, like moving in or out of the class or stopping one activity to do another and we are learning that a good choice is to:

  • Listen
  • Move on
  • Stay calm
We will be reinforcing this vocabulary consistently over the next few weeks.  Try doing the same at home and see if it makes sense for the students!
